From an idea to your completely personalized home

This richly tinted finish darkens slightly at the edges and catches the light in interesting ways across the visible metal grain. Over the years, we've been involved in some really neat metal projects. Our metal work ranges from family name wall badges to business signs and many ranch entrances. We've even got the chance to work on many projects for President Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush. I’ve also done work for the United States Secret Service and Texas Department of Public Safety. I am proud to be the exclusive metal artist for Four Sixes Ranch, John Wayne Enterprises, and PBR.

If we appear to be a good fit, a member of our team of San Diego interior designers meets with you on-site to discuss your vision further. If we cannot meet on-site, a meeting at our studio is always welcome. J Hill Interiors is a full-service interior design firm that can tackle any project. Every detail is taken care of, so you can enjoy the process and results. Coming alongside you and accomplishing your vision, we lead you through each step of your renovation, new build, or decorating refresh.

When it comes to starting a project – a sign or custom iron piece – I have to get a feel for what the customer is wanting or picturing in their mind. Then I have to wrap my thoughts around it before I can get rolling. Most times, it just flows, and I get so excited about how I can lay it out and make it all come together.

Then, I wind up loving the project and being more excited than ones that flow and come to me instantly. Soon, Joanna and I were talking and designing together. Then it wasn’t long till the High Noon Entertainment trucks, vans and people were at our shop clipping microphones on me, and we were filming away. I was nervous as could be at first, then all of a sudden it came naturally and I did ok.

The restful glow of sunset, available any time of day. Visible metal grain is softened by a warm honey tone that creates a unique, quietly radiant hue. This tinted, uniform finish shows only the slightest appearance of metal grain across a velvety-dark surface. Custom Projects (unique, fully custom designs, including logos or images submitted to us through the custom design submission form) ship in 8-11 weeks.

This rose gold finish is the perfect look if you're trying to create a classic but modern design that will work with most colors in your home. This warm neutral finish is a great option if you're looking for something with shine, class and style. Our unique metal signs are made in the USA by skilled craftsmen. The condition and treatment of the metal creates interesting imperfections and endearing characteristics that ensure you’ll never see another exactly like it. The product you receive will be completely one-of-a-kind—just like Jimmy Don himself. For several years, I was a partner with my father in the metal art business Stars Over Texas located in Crawford, Texas.

Its smooth and glossy characteristics add a sleek and modern look to any room. Flecked and textured, this smooth finish has beautiful deep hues of gold and dark shadows. This finish is classic and will weather well for outdoors or inside.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson Audiobook

design yumi and the nightmare painter

It is, however, a satisfying pay-off novel for avid readers and fans. This is a gallery of interior art for Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. For more information about each piece, including transcripts of the text (when needed), check each file's individual page.

Love at first sight

The front half of the story drags along as Yumi and Painter alternate lives and try to understand one another. It’s the book equivalent of the “Spider-man pointing at himself” meme. The back half, when the mystery starts to come together, is where Sanderson characteristically kicks things into high gear.

I don’t know what the other reviews are on about

They proceed to the place of ritual to begin their daily practice. Nikaro and Yumi talk along the way about the apparent hion lines she witnessed in the tent, and Painter thinks this suggests they are on the verge of an industrial revolution. There are fewer onlookers than usual because the scholars' machine has been activated.

Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection

One at a time they leave the spring to get dressed, and as Painter is being dressed, he faints. Eventually it moved on to utilizing the spirits, and produced hion buds near former settlements--locations where hion lines emerged from the ground. Only the refugees living on the outskirts of Torio survived to resettle the region over the centuries that followed.

People who viewed this also viewed...

And yes, first-time readers of Brandon Sanderson or Cosmere will miss out on understanding the Cosmere terminologies and who Design is if they start here. But honestly, if the reader hasn’t read The Stormlight Archive yet, none of these actually count as spoilers. A relatively very minor spoiler, too, if we count some things I can’t say here. I’m caught up with all the Cosmere books, and the knowledge I had from reading The Stormlight Archive did not significantly enhance my reading experience of this one. Some readers will and have argued you must read up to Rhythm of War before reading Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. I understand the sentiment, but this is a bit crazy.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter: A Cosmere Novel

The resulting story ranges from comedic and heartwarming, to sentimental and even somber. While the characters begin untangling the mystery’s threads, they are drawn closer to each other, and the question of how their story will resolve looms ever larger. Back at the Noodle Pupil, Yumi drinks broth to warm herself as the others comfort her. Nikaro feels worn out, after being drained by the nightmare and helping heal Yumi.

Get Started

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is a fantasy novel written by American author Brandon Sanderson. It is part of the Cosmere fictional universe and the third book of Sanderson's "Secret Projects" Kickstarter campaign. It was exclusively released on July 1, 2023, by Dragonsteel Entertainment to Kickstarter backers. Painter stands alone at the western edge of Kilahito, waiting for the nightmares. He considers what Yumi would do, and realizes he has another option.

The worldbuilding grows more detailed than this—and I’m doing my best to avoid spoilers, so I’ll not go into specifics—as the plot thickens. It works well, and I found it interesting, but I do suspect that readers unfamiliar with Sanderson’s other work may lose track. Now, all alone and with no one he knew left alive, he chances across humans among the concrete wilderness. No, these are stone-age like tribespeople—three women whose tribe has been slaughtered by a Great Beast. One who can harness the power of the crystals and its magic-giving mists. Chosen by the Master in a mysterious inception ceremony, Rithmatists have the power to infuse life into two-dimensional figures known as Chalklings.

Great first book

As I said, compromise and empathy are some of the main themes in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the name Yumi is most likely inspired by Yuna in Final Fantasy X video game. Tidus, the other main character in Final Fantasy X, is a blitzball player. This is practically where Final Fantasy X came in as an inspiration for this novel.

Yumi gets an impression that even if they survive the initial attack, the machine will continue sending nightmares until Kilahito is rubble. She exits the exhibit hall and enters the courtyard full of rubble, then begins to stack--letting loose with all of her skill. Back in Kilahito, six painters have now been wounded, and Tojin shouts that they cannot hold. The painters are running out of canvas and the ground is slick with paint. Nikaro urges them to continue because the city depends on them, and the battle cry "we are the Dreamwatch now" catches on. Nikaro then recognizes Liyun among the nightmares and gets an idea.

Yumi asks several questions via Nikaro, and Liyun admits the truth--though she believes Yumi's rebellion will be short-lived. They float together and Yumi tries to touch his hand, but once again is unable to make physical contact. After this she declares that she wants to do something "transgressive". Painter proposes to spy on the scholars and their machine, which is more serious than Yumi had imagined--but she considers and agrees. Nikaro and Yumi join Design in cleaning up the spilled soup so that they can talk briefly in private.

Yumi tries on a bra for the first time, followed by the blue dress. She is concerned that her shoulders are bare, but Akane included an additional cardigan-like top that she can wear. Yumi is enamored with the dress, and decides that she is comfortable having possessions that she likes.

Although some readers have felt dissatisfied with Sanderson’s prose, I always love his writing and storytelling style. His writing is vivid, and the scenes are constantly easy to visualize in my mind, with emotionally impactful and hard-hitting passages placed at the right moment. A cooking machine that succeeded at creating a noodle will never top me feeling awed by a chef cooking a delicious noodle for me.

Nikaro tasks her with painting the bamboo stroke one thousand times, and she begins this without question. Eventually there is a knock at the door, and Yumi answers it after Painter gestures. Akane invites Yumi to dinner, and insists she can't stay in the apartment all day. Nikaro has Yumi pretend that she is studying for exams, and Akane leaves.

White House Black Trim A Classic and Timeless Home Exterior Design

single story white house black trim

Almost all facets of a property, including the interior and exterior, can embrace the traditional style. As you can see in the above picture, Sherwin Williams Black Magic shade has been used to paint the maximum part of the exterior. There are so many circumstances for finishing a white bungalow with black trim.

Stunning White House Black Trim Exteriors You’ll Admire

Here, Arctic White is used to create contrast with the black accents. The traditional white tint contrasts with the dark window frames, pergola roofs, and house roofs. This combination comes to life because of the blue outdoor pool. Use this combination if you want to create a classic, modern look. The perfectly lit staircase leads you to the front door right into the middle level of the home.

Modern White Concrete with Black Trim

They all look stunning regardless of the style and levels of a building. This is the simplest and easiest way to select this color combination for a contrasting look. Even though we had a wooden door and wooden porch posts, our white home was definitely missing something. Since our windows were in dire need of being replaced anyway, we’re now in the process of replacing all of our windows for ones with black trim.

What color front door looks best with a white house?

While your window’s exterior aesthetic is essential, remember that the way the window functions and appeals to your interiors can produce an adventure in your house. In bathrooms, look to windows that will let in light but not give direct viewing angles from the exterior. If you’ve got picturesque views to take advantage of, or your home’s architecture is different, use window styles, colors, shapes, and details to play up your interiors. While your first thought for remodeling turns to your bathroom or kitchen, do not forget about replacing old windows. With newer manufacturing practices for window brands, there is an increased push for energy-efficient assemblies to save on your energy bills.

WHITE BRICK TO ADD MORE WARMTH

A smart combination of black and white can transform a bland structure into a lively one. A black house with white trim is a perfect contrast that can further be enhanced with white and green landscaping. The aesthetics can be more enhanced with a wooden front door which will add another colour to the material and colour palette of the house. With soothing white on the majority of the area, the darkness of black stands out and creates a stylish facade. But if white houses aren’t your thing, try these beautiful black painted exteriors.

In fact, adding angles can help boost the dimension and elevate the home’s overall impression. The white color scheme makes the living spaces feel bright and open, making them inviting and spacious. The black trim adds a pinch of excitement, making a perfect balance between softness and boldness. This pattern is popular for those who want a simple yet fashionable look for their home, fitting in perfectly in both city and suburban areas.

Black Roof for White House

The white house with black trim stands out amongst the greenery, and the combination of black with white is visually interesting. In this example, the black front door and the matching shutters have provided a strong contrast to the white siding. Just imagine if the entire exterior of this house was in plain white – it would have looked rather bland, don’t you think?

The sea of options in the combinations and design of these elements provides homeowners with unlimited options to try and make the house look unique and special. The best part about a white house with black trim is that it is a classic, timeless design. The combination of two welcomes other shades to be added in the colour scheme to jazz up the design even more. Windows with black trims are well capable of adding a drama contrasting to the white house.

Small White House With Black Trim

He enjoys geology and hiking in his spare time, often collecting unique stones for his projects. For thicker than traditional sizes, window casings can expand emphasis and dimension. Black window cases on white siding tend to exacerbate the effect, creating a bold perimeter that brings attention to the architecture.

This will immediately reduce the black tone’s boldness from the trim and exteriors of the white house. If you are looking to elevate the exterior of your home, consider these single-story white house black trim ideas to give a visually stunning and timeless look to your house. Black frames frequently look great on modern or contemporary houses. We have seen them succeed in Victorian-era homes where the window frames, fascia, gutter, and wood trim are painted black. This could work since the color black isn’t fighting with every other color; it is just there to enhance the brown or red brickwork. If your house has a great deal of charm and character, black window frames can look like they do not fit, like they do not belong.

The stone pillars and accent sections on this home are a nice addition. Share it with your family and friends who are looking for some beautiful white houses with black trim designs and ideas. This is a huge two-story contemporary white painted brick house with stylish exteriors finished with metal roofs. The crisp white walls look beautifully contrasted with the trim of the door and windows. So whether you want to renovate, remodel your house, or just want to add a layer of paint, these house ideas will give you some inspiration. You can use the black paint on your roof, door trims, or can use black window frames for a unique look.

A Single Story white house black trim not only catches people’s eyes but also offers a lot of space to enhance it with minimal detailing which doesn’t look minimal to others. The impact that white and black create on the mind and the way both the colours contrast with each other and go together at the same time are literally unmatchable. The combination of white siding with black trim has gained much popularity over the last few years, and it’s hardly surprising!

40 Baby Room Ideas for a Charming, Functional Nursery

design a nursery

Use these tips to create a nursery that you'll love and a space that will grow with your baby. For a bedroom off the nursery, Carmine Sabatella wanted to create a jewel-toned escape. “I thought, if somebody’s taking care of the baby, they have a space where they can come and feel like it’s a retreat,” Sabatella says. The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor.

Design a Room That Will Grow With Your Baby

At the far end of the room, Levine installed a lush purple sofa with cocktail tables, creating the perfect spot for drinks, dessert, or relaxing with a cup of coffee. The designers worked with a color palette of Dunn-Edwards paints, and several chose to highlight the brand’s 2024 Color of the Year, a steely blue called Skipping Stones. Nods to Pasadena’s famous peacocks can be found throughout the designs, and many creators fearlessly brought in statement floors, enveloped their spaces with jewel tones, and added texture to ceilings. Others focused on bringing the beauty of the estate’s gardens and views inside with verdant murals, floral fabrics, and nature-inspired lighting.

INVEST IN NURSERY FURNITURE THAT CAN GROW WITH BABY

Toddler beds are practical because they’re low to make climbing in easy, and are designed to prevent kids rolling out. After that, it’s down to aesthetics with a choice between more whimsical offerings and plainer wood or wood-look designs. If you pick either a hard flooring option like wood or laminate for a baby’s room, or want to brighten up a plainly carpeted floor, layer a rug on top. Flat weave or short pile rugs are easiest to keep clean and both wool and cotton are soft and durable. Vinyl flooring that’s good quality is warm, hard wearing, easy to clean and forgiving as a surface. It’s available in brilliant colours, if you want to make the floor the focus, as well as more subtle shades, or opt for the neutrality of a wood-look vinyl.

Also consider an ottoman-style bed with capacious storage that can be accessed by lifting the mattress for older children. Bunk beds are space-saving for room sharers, or ready for sleepovers if the room has just one occupant. Top bunks should be reserved for the over sixes and the mattress shouldn’t be so thick that it allows them to roll over the barrier. Ambient light for the room is usually provided by a ceiling pendant, down lights or track lighting. You might want to hang a pendant with an attractive shape (to throw interesting patterned shadows), or in a beautiful colour.

The most important thing to consider is child safety when designing the nursery. The crib should meet safety standards, the crib mattress should be firm and there should not be loose bedding, pillows, bumper pads or stuffed toys in the crib. Check out this baby proofing checklist to keep baby safe at all times. Deciding when to start putting together a nursery is no doubt a question that comes to mind for most expecting parents.

Designing a nursery space that works for you and your baby requires careful thought and planning. This way, you can create a sanctuary for your growing family that is both functional and stylish. A versatile dresser is another key piece of nursery furniture that can grow with your child.

Design a Beautiful and Safe Nursery With My Step-By-Step Guide

“Our whole goal with this space was basically to turn the lights on in the room, bring in the garden that’s outside, and kind of have an experience of a breath of fresh air,” Brosio says. Curved sofas can't do anything that traditional sofas or sectionals don't, but they do serve a purpose that surpasses aesthetics. "A curved sofa creates a more cozy and intimate setting for better connection and conversation, as the seating arrangement encourages closeness and intimacy," Chiu notes. Plus, depending on the specific curve of your sofa, it can actually offer more surface area for sitting and lounging than its traditional counterpart.

First and foremost, we chose only the best-looking curved couches on the market. Next, we consulted reviews, plucking out the sofas with the most five-star ratings and positive feedback from verified reviews. Aim to have the nursery fit in well with your home’s overall theme and decor. If most of your house is farmhouse-style, what kind of staples can you add to your baby’s room to fit that mold? If you live in a modern apartment, keep that in mind when designing your child’s space.

Designing a nursery involves a delicate balance between creating a beautiful and functional space while also sticking to a budget. An essential principle in managing your nursery expenses is understanding where to invest more and where you can afford to cut back. Sensible budgeting doesn't mean compromising on style or comfort; instead, it leads to a space that grows with your child while reflecting your taste.

The light fixture is such a great statement piece, and you can see just off to the right is a cozy area to sit and for feeding. If I had ever designed a twin nursery for myself, I would have undoubtedly used golden cribs. The large dresser provides a great space for storage, in addition to the open shelving. This large space is a really fantastic example of using the principles of zoning to create cozy spaces, even in a wide open space. The mural along the wall behind the crib is such a beautiful statement and really set the tone for the rest of the space. Across the room is a neat diagonal accent wall with the changing area and feeding areas.

Choose timeless and sophisticated pieces over trendy, disposable pieces that won't stand the test of time. It will be a worthwhile expense since you get to enjoy and use the pieces over a long time. The film takes place in a fictional town called Hohman, Indiana. But in every sense, Ohio’s Tremont neighborhood is where Ralphie Parker and his family experienced A Christmas Story. But resist the temptation to fire it — you might shoot your eye out.

A Christmas Story House Museum

The film’s director Bob Clark and his scouting crew had to do much coaxing in the form of shots at a nearby bar to get the original owner of the home to agree to hand over the keys. The film crew chose the home before even seeing the inside. Exterior shots like the moment Ralphie shoots his eye out and the fantasy sequence featuring Black Bart and his men were filmed in the Cleveland home’s real backyard.

Real-Life Locations From Christmas Movies

A Christmas Story House is an attraction and museum in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. The museum is part of a complex of four buildings devoted to the film and is open to the public year round. The city’s unwavering enthusiasm for the 1983 holiday classic is rivaled only by that of loyal “ACS” fans who flock to Northeast Ohio from far and wide to relive favorite scenes at several easy-to-visit filming locations. California entrepreneur Brian Jones bought the house, which was listed on eBay, to renovate it and turn it into a museum based on the film.

The house is open year-round, but tours pick up around the winter holidays, naturally. And since 2006, A Christmas Story House and Museum has been created to celebrate the Cleveland, Ohio location where exterior shots were filmed in 1983. This means the 1983 holiday classic has become as much a part of our city as pierogies and craft beer.

Neighborhoods

Producers chose the home because of its proximity to downtown and it bordered the Cuyahoga River Valley offering views of the steel mills in the valley. Although the movie wasn’t a big box office success upon its initial release, A Christmas Story has become one of the most beloved holiday films of all time. It tells the heartwarming tale of 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his desire to have Santa Claus bring him a Red Ryder BB gun. His Christmas wish takes plenty of twists and turns as the Parker family embarks on a hilarious holiday journey filled with countless lines fans frequently quote, while making leg lamps a must-have item in many households. The owner of the house began by selling replica “leg lamps” like the one featured in A Christmas Story’s most memorable scene, and was eventually able to purchase the home from the movie.

Shepherd’s tale of young Ralphie’s dream of getting his very own official Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot Range Model air rifle has also inspired stage productions and donuts and a 5K and dinner parties and candy and even a beer. “This year, JACK has once again decked the halls of the historic Higbee’s building to continue the traditions of the famed Cleveland department store,” said Aleksandra Breault, public relations manager for the casino. Rae said to date, more than 300,000 people have visited the house. Next to the main museum building, you can also see the Parker family car, and an old fire engine from the time period of the movie. In fact, “A Christmas Story” is now such a classic holiday film that it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2012.

Over a million people have visited the house since 2006 when it opened for business as a site of intrigue and museum. Located across West 11th Street from A Christmas Story House, this 1906-built neighborhood tavern, at 1104 Rowley Ave., was a favorite with cast members. Stories abound about how "The Old Man" (Darren McGavin) used to shut down the Rowley at night, then go back to his trailer for a nightcap, finally ending up sharing breakfast while he would listen to the actor recite his lines.

R. Bruce Campbell, vice president of Higbee’s department store, felt publicity from the movie would help the struggling business. With Campbell’s imprimatur, workers dutifully removed Barbies, Hot Wheels and incipient video games and replaced them with metal toys and other items from the World War II era. Director Bob Clark -- yes, the guy behind the far-less-wholesome “Porky’s” movies -- deployed location scouts to 20 cities. Only one boasted blue-collar, steel-town grit, as well as a vintage department store that could be transformed into a slice of 1940s Northwest Indiana. “We have people that have come here from Italy and Japan,” said museum staffer Anne Chriszt of Bay Village, Ohio.

They found their answer in a home located in the Cleveland neighborhood of Tremont. The historic main house is jointly listed with Hoff & Leigh agent Chad Whitmer and REAG. In sum, the sale encompasses five buildings, two public parking lots, one private parking lot and two empty lots spread across seven adjacent parcels — all of which stand on a shared 1.3-acre campus. Although only about 15 percent of the movie was filmed in and around the house — that’s something you learn on the tour — some of the movie’s most pivotal moments were shot where you’ll be standing. The gift shop includes everything you’d expect there, from Ralphie’s “Pink Nightmare” bunny costume to novelty T-shirts to leg lamps.

The House from A Christmas Story, now restored to its movie splendor, is open year round to the public for tours and overnight stays. Directly across the street from the House is the Museum, which features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos. Among the props and costumes are the toys from the Higbee’s window, Randy’s snowsuit, the chalkboard from Miss Shields’ classroom and the family car. After reliving the movie at Ralphie’s house don’t forget to visit the museum gift shop for your own Major Award Leg Lamp and other great movie memorabilia. Proceeds from the gift shop and overnight stays help support and maintain The House from A Christmas Story. Twenty-one years after the film was released, entrepreneur Brian M. Jones, a native of San Diego, bought the house on eBay for $150,000.

It’s also a heck of a lot of fun, especially if you’re a fan of the holiday classic. The facility also houses a wide variety of original memorabilia from other classic Christmas films, as well as window displays from a number of historic New York City department stores. Vintage metal toys showcased in the Higbee’s window scenes can be viewed at the festive attraction, as can the chattering teeth Miss Shields found in her desk and toy elves featured in the movie. Located across the street from the A Christmas Story house, the tavern was a favorite with cast and crew. Legendarily, “the old man,” actor Darren McGavin, would imbibe in the cozy confines after a hard day on set.

If you save your ticket you get 10 percent off food at Rowleys across the street. If you pick up the phone upstairs, you will be yelled at by an angry mother. JACK went all out this year, making any description insufficient. Mecca for ACS pilgrims is an 1895 Victorian home, conveniently located near steel mills and downtown attractions, at 3159 W. Now is the ideal time to get out and enjoy everything ACS, as well as the other things our great city has to offer. “We get people from all over the world,” said Brian Jones, owner of A Christmas Story House & Museum.

The museum has grown over the years, with Jones opening an actual museum across the street, along with a third building that houses a gift shop. The props in the house are very close to those used in the film, from a Christmas tree complete with a blue bowling ball and a Red Ryder under its branches, to the infamous leg lamp in the living room window. Near the entrance to the house, another leg lamp is displayed in a packing crate just as it was in the film. A climb up the stairway reveals an authentic bedroom for Ralphie and brother Randy, and there is even a bar of Lifebuoy soap on the sink, just like the one used to wash Ralphie’s mouth after his infamous utterance.

You can spend the night at both the Christmas Story house and the Bumpus house. The pricing on overnight stays is pretty fair, too, especially if you split the costs with friends. The one used primarily by Ralphie to shoot his eye out is in the clutches of Peter Billingsly, the actor who played Ralphie. Several have gone missing over time, a theme you’ll notice over the course of your tour with other props. If you’re a fan girl like me, you’ll take a ton of photos on and off your tour that will only add to your time there.
